Granite Central Securities Depository
Granite CSD is a South African registered company that has been licensed under section 29 of the Financial Markets Act by the Financial Services Board to act as a Central Securities Depository for Bond and Money Market securities.
Granite CSD has evolved out of the need to align with international standards and regional developments, specifically focused in the post-trade securities environment in South Africa.
What is a Central Securities Depository (CSD)?
Granite CSD is an entity which provides a central point of depositing financial instruments (securities). CSD clients are mainly financial institutions (e.g. custodian banks and brokers) rather than individual investors.
The Financial Markets Act defines a Central Securities Depository as a juristic entity which “constitutes, maintains and provides an infrastructure for holding uncertificated securities which enables the making of entries in respect of uncertificated securities, and which infrastructure includes a securities settlement system.”
